As you can tell by looking at the archives, this blog hasn’t been active for about 15 months. I, Grant, have for the past four years been the only person who really posts here, and I anticipate that situation will continue. Because of the long absence, I wanted to leave a quick note about what’s changed in my life and how that impacts the existence of this blog.
First, last summer I got married. To do this, I crammed the last work for my M.Div. to be finished in early July 2019 (I think I turned in one remaining paper a few weeks later), which involved doing a lot of independent study while working full time. In fall I started a Th.M. program at The Master’s Seminary in Old Testament. At Joni and Friends I now work in the International Outreach department. So over the past year I’ve been pulled in a number of different directions, and while I occasionally wrote potential blog posts down by hand they never made it to this blog.
My hope is to use the declining days of quarantine to get in a new rhythm that makes this blog sustainable in the future. I had been working through my thoughts as I read through the Old Testament in Hebrew–this slowed the blog down. Although I have now read from Genesis through most of Isaiah, the reading itself takes significant time, and I get distracted from settling down to actually write. Instead, I aim to produce shorter posts, including some more academic thoughts coming off my work in school, and less of an attempt to build anything like an ongoing series.
This blog is important to me for a few reasons. I want to mature as a writer, so I need to write more. I want to make sure that all the work I do in school is ultimately useful to everyday Christians, so writing in an informal setting is invaluable. And I want to leave a resource that is enjoyable and helpful to my brothers and sisters in Christ. While I may not prioritize true regularity of writing here, I hope that I never really quit and keep using this to stir up our thoughts about Christ as his return draws ever closer.
